Welcome to Omnibuses2.0, the updated Omnibuses site.
It's exactly 1,400 days since the date of the first post. What better time to make some changes? The only minor changes since the site's creation were this time last year.
First, what we haven't changed. The site continues under the same authorship as before. We are *not* under new management. Our intention remains to post on the same general frequency. So, what's changed, then? Well, we've...
a Gone for something simple.
a Ditched the old dark background in favour of something more modern, a little more Web 2.0, in line with our trendy (?) new strapline "Reflecting the bus industry in a postmodern2.0 world."
a Discarded the old descriptor "We are the passengers..." that's served us from the start.
a Added links to pages proving to be the most popular search subjects.
a Introduced for the first time a Contact Us link, with some trepidation.
What we haven't changed is access to the archives. They still go back to the date of the first post, when this site was more concerned about Poole and Bournemouth.
As with all good things 2.0, this site is in Beta. We've tested the site on Firefox and also IE7 but please report any issues. Oh, and let us have your general comments.
And if anyone would like to contribute to Omnibuses, take a look on the left.

Is it possible to widen the centre column, the one with the actual posts?
Not so much widen the centre column, perhaps (I think that'd create problems on 1024x768 screens), but perhaps slightly reduce the font size of the outer columns? As it is, it all blends into one a tad too much.
Generally, though, I quite like this new design!
Been reading this for years and am now pleased the background is white and not dark! Well done! Keep up the good work!
Va links in ya blogroll don't work :-(
Quality of content is the main concern - as long as it remains at its previous high level then I'm not too bothered but (isn't there always?) the font is a bit on the pale side. Any chance of turning the contrast up a bit?
However, on previewing this comment I discovered that if I click on 'why change' I get what looks like the same screen but with no comments - i.e. the 4 at the present timehave disappeared.
Have I discovered the fault & do I win a prize?
Excellent - Must admit that being in my dotage I did occasionally have trouble with the dark background & small font size before...
But nver mind the width, just keep up the quality!
Thank you to those who have commented on the new layout.

Because it’s linked to the point Stefan makes, it’s best answered below.

Both these comments have fair point. I’m loathed to reduce the font size because that was certainly a criticism in the past (and as stated below). What I’ve done in actual fact may suffice. By widening the page thereby giving myself the ability to widen the padding either side of the middle column, I can insert a faint vertical border. The padding (spacing) unblends the three columns with or without the border.
This should work at 1024x768, the standard resolution these days. Please confirm that it does.
The downside? It reduces the white space.

Mea culpa. All working now. I’d miscoded : (

A point well made. Site design cannot hide poor content.
“…but (isn't there always?) the font is a bit on the pale side. Any chance of turning the contrast up a bit…”
I will keep this in mind and under review. I wanted a contrast with the side panels. At first, these were all blue, then the side panel text dark grey, and the main post blue. But that felt a little heavy.

Discovered, yes. Prize, just satisfaction!Another miscoding, sorry. Fixed.

TY Cog. Noted. The old font and style certainly had its limitations.
Friday's tweaks work for me! They’ve made the refurb even better. So many bloggers use a standard template with considering that there’s a full screen to fill. White space around the edges is one thing but generally you can drive a double decker through them. I think this blog has the balance right.
Anonymous (5), I refer to your comment here
its an interesting read but im not sure about the big news you bring to us first. is it really one guy in bournemouth with an interest in preston/chester who holidays in wales?seems like that sometimes. would have prefered a large space for your writing. certainly for being kept up to date about preston chester bournemouth this site is very good.
