7+1 Bus Blogs

Here is Omnibuses2.0's quick review of seven-plus-one top bus-related UK blogs, all worth a look. So far as we know, this is the first ever review of top UK bus blogs. We attempt four lines or less on each top blog. Feel free to add your own comments on these or other bus-related blogs we might've missed.

“Updates” refer to the frequency of posts or alterations. Hence 7/7 equals something usually every day; 1/7 is much less frequent.

Bus Driving
Since 4/2004
Updates 6/7

Humourous to the point of sarcasm, an ‘ordinary’ driver (if there can ever be one such!) travels the Torbay coast, noting the sort of things that amuse and irritate anyone who’s ever been behind the wheel of a bus. The post on Doris will probably become obsolete come the introduction of a national free travel.

Busworld Photography
Since 12/2006
Updates 6/7

Blog meets Flickr. A nostalgic pictoral flashback with a welcome amount of explanatory text that goes beyond the usual collection of ‘record shots’ as you might see on Fotopic. We're not quite sure how this blogger gets away with some of his occasional comments about women/adolescent girls.

London Bus Page in Exile
Since 12/2006
Updates 1/7

Very well written, eclectic and informed blog on London’s diverse bus scene, with an emphasis on current events and the recent past. Benefits from being written by a known author.

Plymothian Transit
Since 3/2005
Updates 6/7

Mostly buses but with more. Over the years this longstanding blog has looked at controversies such as First Devon &Cornwall’s performance, the sale of CityCoach , Bretonside, free travel and the rocky First south west rail franchise. Fascinating pictures old and new.

Transport Info
Since 7/2002
Updates 7/7

The original meaning of "blog" was a "web log" of visited sites and this is what Transport Info is. Not strictly a blog by today's standards, it's a collection of transport-related news links. The author admits to five years of 'drudgery' and few holidays for the sake of his daily compilation.

Working on the Buses
A blog-like site in its infancy that endeavours to collect stories about life on the buses, from those of conductors to managers. Worth bookmarking for the future.

The 43
3/2005-3/2006
Updates 0/7
One year’s worth of a perceptive passenger prose, looking at life from a steamed up bus window. Illustrated by the author. Winner of the Manchester Blog of the Year 2006 but sadly now withdrawn from service. Worth a retrospective look. This post is a good introduction to The 43.

And, for the record and SEO, the "plus one"...

Omnibuses
Since 9/2003
Updates 6/7
In DBG's words, "An industry insider blog that covers all aspects of the bus industry. Based in Bournemouth but covers the whole country. Often seems to get the big stories first. Highly recommended."

what I like about Bus Driver Jimmy's blog was the posts chronicling his training. We all laughed with (not at) him and shared his frustrations when he didn't pass first time.

I see your website looks interesting and thanks for mentioning my Busworld Photography. Yes I wanted to present good quality medium-definition images and a bit more to read as well. In your description though you forgot to add that I equally cover various European Operators in countries I visitnd there is also newer and even some bang up to date material too. However most of these are still on file and I haven't started posting the best stuff yet either as I've been relying on the loose prints before I delve into the albums. As for the buses and girls, that's just my style. I'm afraid buses on their own are pretty dull and I take relatively few so-called record shots. But this is no bad thing for were we to take everything based on merit nobody would ever photograph the also-rans which today are probably of equal interest. Thanks again, posting the photos is easy but it feels a lot more worthwhile doing the text when I start getting more visitors. Hope you visitors will leave a comment if they arrive.

Some of the small band of bus drivers who blog about their lives on the buses are listed here:

I could just add another in a shameless bit of self promotion
www.plymouthcitybus-photo.blogspot.com

sister blog to Plymothian Transit.

Cheers

It seems that has enjoyed the highest number of outclicks from yesterday’s post, at over 35. Next at just less than half was Busworld Photography. Perhaps these two were the least well known of the seven, as Graham’s comment suggests.

The sites were chosen as a Top Seven. Inevitably, some readers will known some of the seven already.

Anonymous (1) will note Jimmy is on the Omnibuses’ blogroll, for good reason!

Christopher, thank you for your comment. It appears we can look forward to much more from your site.

Anonymous (2), there are others of which I know, but not many. I think there are three in total from Brighton & Hove! Another well written offering is at Megabus Driver, also local to Bournemouth.

If any potentially new blogging driver is reading this, may I humbly suggest they look for a unique selling point, as the existing drivers’ blogs, especially long standing and Driving a Bus? are very much established in their fields.

Yes...why was the advertised 7+1 only 6+1? How come the excellent Jimmie got left out of the review? He's top three material surely...

Cogidubnus, seven is the sort of figure we can all easily digest, which meant not all blogs could be included. There’s a need to get as good a mix as possible. ’s been on the Omnibuses blogroll almost ever since he started and is well worth a read.
